A Thankful Spirit

A Thankful Spirit

Thanksgiving is a time for giving LikesUP for all we are grateful for.

If you are in the United States of America (or if you are Canadian and recall the activity around last October 14th) you know about the Turkey Day activity. You may already be travelling on the busiest day of the year by car or be in an airport. Or you may be shopping, cleaning, cooking and searching for that gravy ladle. With so much to so, who has time to also give gratitude?

Earlier this month, I set out to purchase Thanksgiving cards to send to those who are not big social media buffs. It took three sittings to get those cards written with personal messages and addressed and stamped. You must give time to give your attention to give thanks.

My friend, Tony Rubleski, wrote “Why Gratitude Matters in a Sped Up World” and he said thank you but did not answer the why. It does take time to give gratitude. In an ideal world, we can give thanks on an individual basis. In reality, we thank in broad sweeps, like an email newsletter or blog post. There are very few people who get a real 1-on-1 deep thank you.

Rachel Rofe today decided to GIVE in the spirit of Thanksgiving. She secretly paid for the groceries of the person behind her in the checkout line at the market.

In addition, tonight is also Hanukkah. So two holidays that make it even busier if you celebrate the Festival of Lights.

So in the spirit of Thanksgiving, however you are celebrating or even if you are not, think of one person today you are grateful for and reach out. A “Thank You” goes a long way.
