March 2011: Google announced a new service called +1 ( plus one).  I appears that it will compete directly with the Facebook “like button” as a signal for determining what content is “liked” by an individual.
Google’s own advertisements will now include the +1 button, making AdWords just as social as many of Facebook’s own advertising products.
